The Returning Runner
Act 10 – Find a buddy…
Sorry for the late blog – been vacationing in San Diego and getting to know the new puppy (Beau). That brings us to this week’s short blog. Find a buddy to run with! All sorts of reasons:
· You will be more motivated when you have a committed running buddy!
· You will be safer with a running buddy! Without a buddy to get help and assist with first aide, a sprained or broken ankle from stepping off a curb wrong can quickly become a calamity in bad weather conditions. Plus, both human and animal “bad actors” (bears and mountain lions are real issues is my area) can pose a hazard.
· Syncing your cadence with a buddy can help you to keep a better pace!
· Longer runs can get a touch boring if you don’t have a buddy to make fun of while running!
· When you do get an occasional ache or pain it’s great to have a buddy to whine to – sometimes they may even have some good insights into treating an injury!
I have a pretty irregular schedule, and it is tough to find a human running buddy. Our trusty dog has been a great backup when running in areas which are home to bears and mountain lions, and less commonly bad dudes.
Find a friend and get out there! Next week, more on injury treatment.
